Connect Young Children With Nature

Kids these days have a huge difference in their exposure compared to years back then. With the evolution of technology, kids today are more attracted to electronic gadgets compared to exploring the outdoors and nature.

With the internet, any knowledge and skills can easily be acquired and discovered using the search engine. You may argue that this exposure may be similar to the one outdoor because of images and videos.

Despite having so, there are still differences from experiencing hands on in real life because it gives your child the chance to see, hear and smell what their senses want them to. First real life exposure is essential as it leaves a strong impact on them to remember it for good. This would enhance their memory work and school performance while creating an adventurous and curious, pleasant personality in them.

If you think it's a hassle, think again. How much time do you spend with your children in a week? What do you do with them during that time?

Consider visiting your neighborhood's playground or garden once a week before or after dinner for a stroll to take your mind off the hectic lifestyle while giving your children the excitement of spending time with you and the nature at the same time. An excursion to the zoo or the underwater exhibition experience would definitely enhance their knowledge of the living creatures too.

Take every chance to travel with them around the world as it gives them the chance to explore not just the culture and values of other society but also the nature of species found in other country but not in your own. It can be in the form of flora and fauna to the different seasons or astronomical events which definitely are worth a lifetime experience trips.

If you have green fingers, involve your kids in gardening. It teaches them to grow their passion of watching a seed sprout into a plant and bloom into a flower or bear fruits. It nurtures the value of patience and responsibility as well as hard work of reaping what they sowed through nature exposure.

Kids being naive and excited have the best personality to embrace many things easily. You may consider having a pet as their responsibility while guiding them to care for it but before doing so, you should consider bringing them to the animal shelter.

In the animal shelter, rather than showing them healthy and good-looking pets from the pet shop, your kids are exposed to all types of pets' condition and history. This teaches them to be more appreciative and not take things for granted but to be compassionate and rational of not just towards people but their surroundings and other living creatures.

The exposure to nature's lesson is a lifetime worth impact. Childhood is the most important and ideal stage of life to start connecting with nature. It's also a worthwhile lifetime investment on your children.
